he came through sharks youth system, playing under–16 team @ 2004 grant khomo week, under–18s @ 2005 academy week , under–21 team in 2008 under-21 provincial championship.

at start of 2013, played varsity cup rugby nmmu madibaz, reached first ever semi-final in competition.

border bulldogs

he signed border bulldogs in time 2012 currie cup first division season , instantly became regular in senior side, making debut in first game of season against swd eagles , playing in fourteen games of season, starting thirteen of them.

he played in 2 2013 vodacom cup matches due varsity cup duties, returned bulldogs make further ten appearances in 2013 currie cup first division, scoring 2 tries.

pumas

he left bulldogs @ end of 2013 season join nelspruit-based side pumas. member of pumas side won vodacom cup first time in 2015, beating western province 24–7 in final. shabangu made 9 appearances during season, scoring 2 tries.

sevens , representative rugby

he played sevens rugby, playing sharks sevens team in 2009 , 2010 , captaining south african emerging sevens team in safaricom sevens tournament in 2011.

in 2013, included in south africa president s xv team played in 2013 irb tbilisi cup , won tournament after winning 3 matches.
