the areas @ start of springfield road made largely of social housing shops on main road itself. these form part of edenderry , clonard districts part of falls road. area close neighbouring loyalist estates number of peace lines in existence due continuing low level violence , vandalism. ainsworth avenue, formerly linked springfield road woodvale road closed off points @ kirk street , workman avenue in woodvale area touch springfield , parts of highfield estate border springfield road limited access still possible through lanark way street linking springfield , shankill roads, albeit gates can locked. street favoured hitmen associated uda west belfast brigade gain access republican districts of west of city, notably stephen mckeag nicknamed street yellow brick road.

a further housing estate, turf lodge, lies beyond springfield road, sandwiched between whiterock road, monagh bypass , glen road. area built in late 1950s house excess people overcrowded districts of lower falls. area had formerly been occupied turf lodge farm , name retained new estate. of housing of low standard, consisting of blocks of flats , maisonettes, although following campaign local women in 1970s of lowest quality housing stock demolished , redeveloped. estate encircled ring roads, state of affairs has helped encourage joyriding amongst local hoods . in turn engendered culture of summary justice, local pira handed out punishment beatings , knee-cappings deemed guilty of antisocial behaviour , in turf lodge. during troubles army base, fort monagh, located on estate.
