the ls7 7,011 cc (7.011 l; 427.8 cu in) engine, based on gen iv architecture. block changed, sleeved cylinders in aluminum block , larger 4.125in (104.775mm) bore , longer 4.00in (101.6mm) stroke ls2. small-block s 4.4 in (110 mm) bore spacing retained, requiring pressed-in cylinder liners. crankshaft , main bearing caps forged steel durability, connecting rods forged titanium, , pistons hypereutectic. two-valve arrangement retained, though titanium intake valves del west have grown 2.20 in (56 mm) , sodium-filled exhaust valves 1.61 in (41 mm).

peak output 505 hp (377 kw) @ 6300 rpm , 470 lb·ft (640 n·m) @ 4800 rpm 7100 rpm redline during gm s reliability testing of engine in prototype phase, ls7 remarked have been repeatedly tested 8000 rpm capable, although power not recorded @ rpm level, due constraints of camshaft s hydraulic lifters , intake manifold ability flow required air @ engine speed.

the ls7 hand-built general motors performance build center in wixom, michigan. of these engines installed in z06, sold individuals gm crate engine. while has same displacement hennessey venom gt utilizes iron block lsx, not ls7.

after extensive engineering process on several years, holden special vehicles fitted ls7 special edition model, w427. hsv-tuned engine produced 375 kw (503 hp) , 640 n·m (470 lb·ft). w427 unveiled @ melbourne international motor show on february 29, 2008 , went on sale in august 2008. first australian car fitted engine, however, csv gts of 2007, claimed have power output of 400 kw (536 hp) , 600 n·m (440 lb·ft).
